This traveling exhibition shows a small selection from Doris Öberg's large collection of doll-sized patchwork quilts. The exhibition includes different sewing techniques, fabrics and imagery. It is also a journey through time from older beds to newer shapes and materials.
Doris Öberg (1935–2020) was born in Hortlax, Piteå. Her interest in needlework was central to her life and she always had something to do with her hands in the evenings on the TV couch. It could be embroidery, sock knitting or some sewing. However, for the last 30 years, patchwork was the focus. Doris held countless study circles and she helped start the QuiltQuinnen association in Älvsbyn.
Doris was always curious to learn new things. She started sewing patchwork quilts in different techniques for doll beds and doll strollers. At flea markets, family and friends began looking for doll beds, doll cradles, kick boxes and doll strollers, which Doris then sewed bedding for. She sewed mattresses, pillows, top and bottom sheets with lace and ribbons. If Doris had an idea for a special bed, her husband Folke built it.
This exhibition shows a selection from Doris's large collection. All quilts have been donated to the Norrbotten Museum.
The exhibition has previously been shown at Älvsbyn Municipal Library, Arvidsjaur Municipal Library, Vittangi Municipal Library and in its entirety at Norrbotten Museum.
