Two Stone Age women holding a glowing stone between them.

The Norrbotten Museum is a learning resource for schools in Norrbotten. We want to arouse children's and young people's interest in the past, present and future through our educational activities. In connection with the museum's exhibitions, we offer free school programs.

Teacher's manuals

Norrbotten's museum has produced teacher's guides that teachers and students can use, for example, in the classroom. The material can be used free of charge.

Iron Age

(500 BC – 1050 AD)

This material is primarily intended as a supplement to other school material on the Iron Age. The focus is on the early Iron Age in Norrbotten, and how new knowledge about iron affected the lives of people at that time. Everything is based on new findings that show that iron manufacturing existed in Norrbotten much earlier than previously thought.

Older Stone Age - Hunter Stone Age

(13 BC – 000 BC)

In Sweden, the Old Stone Age, or Hunter Stone Age, begins when the last ice age ends. In areas not covered by the ice sheet, the period is called the Mesolithic, or Middle Stone Age.

This guide is primarily intended as a complement to other school material about the Stone Age. The material focuses on the Hunter Stone Age in Norrbotten, how the melting of the ice sheet caused people to seek out new areas, and how their lives may have been affected by living so close to the melting ice. It is all based on findings that show that the ice in Norrbotten melted 500 years earlier than we previously thought.
