Gustav Vasa's Bible

In the first episode, archivist Karin Tjernström takes us into the archive and tells us about a true cultural treasure – Gustav Vasa's Bible from 1541, the first complete translation of the Bible into Swedish.

Gustav Vasa's Bible from 1541 is the first complete translation of the Bible into Swedish. It has had enormous significance for our language – among other things, the letter å was introduced here. Since 2025, it has been part of Sweden's cultural canon. In this video, we visit the archive together with Karin Tjernström, archivist at Norrbotten Museum, who talks about the history of the Bible, its linguistic influence and why it is still so important today.
