National River Day in Kukkolaforsen is a tribute to the free national rivers, which provide vitality, inspiration, experiences, passion and our daily bread.
Norrbotten Museum's building antiquarian Erica Duvensjö holds two hikes during the day, at 12.30 and 15.00. She shows the buildings that are related to net fishing. During the day she is on site and shares building maintenance tips and information.
National River Day has been celebrated annually since 1996 on the third weekend in August, with the aim of paying tribute to the national rivers. In our myths and dreams, the great importance of free water for humanity emerges. National River Day therefore symbolizes much more than the protection of wild salmon or the preservation of our own free rivers. For "only those people who care for their water can share in its life-giving power".
