The Luleå Mjölkdroppe association in the premises of the Technical School in Luleå. The association was founded on 5 October 1906 through funds collected from Children's Day during the summer of the same year. The purpose was to arrange milk mixtures for mothers who, for various reasons, could not breastfeed their children. Photographer unknown. From the Luleå Municipality city archives.

During the 1800th century, a growing working class had long shifts and poor wages. There was overcrowding, poverty and starvation. Young children were either taken to work or left unattended. This is the background to the first initiatives for childcare.
