A journey through Lapland

The lecture is about Sir Arthur de Capell Brooke's journey from Alten to Tornio in December 1820. Based on his travelogue, the lecture examines how snow, ice and cold are depicted. Are they portrayed as threatening and frightening, or as exotic elements?

The lecture also highlights similarities and differences between the published text and the illustrations that accompanied it. How was the image of the northern landscape and life presented to an international audience?
