Piteå hospital and asylum

At Furunäset Mental Hospital, formerly Piteå Hospital and Asylum, both dangerous and horrific treatment methods were used during the 1800th century.

Piteå Museum's educator, Morgan Stenberg, lectures about the former mental hospital and gives us an insight into mental health care during the institutional era. He talks about the creation of Furunäset, the lives of patients and staff, treatment methods and much more. It is a dark chapter in our history, but there are also glimpses of sunshine here.
