Building conservation is more than just renovation. Älvsby Folkhögskola runs a unique project with Norrbotten building culture in focus. Building conservation camp 2025 is the first camp of three. Take the chance to learn more about sustainable renovation!

Do you want to learn window renovation, mud paint cooking and renovation tricks for wooden facades? Over ten days in August you will get practical craft knowledge, a lecture by Erika Åberg and an unforgettable nature experience at Storforsen.

The 2025 building maintenance camp is the first of three, with the upcoming building maintenance camps taking place in 2026 and 2027. The camp takes place at Älvsby folk high school where we will work with the building The crank, which normally houses parts of the teaching at the school's Furniture Department.

Contents

During this year's camp, we follow building conservation methods and go through the basics of sustainable renovation of windows and wooden facades. Here, theory is interspersed with concrete tips on, for example, good tools, which technology is best suited for the purpose and, above all, a large amount of practice. Each day starts with theory and then moves on to practical exercises.

During the camp, participants will learn:

  • Renovating old windows using traditional methods
  • Mud paint boiling. Classic red mud paint has been used for centuries to protect wooden buildings, it is part of our cultural heritage and a sustainable solution for the future.
  • Facade renovation. Repair and preserve classic wooden facades without having to replace everything.
  • Assemble the sacrificial board according to traditional Norrbotten style.

Setup

The camp is divided into three parts – choose how many you want to participate in!
All parts include window renovation and maintenance of wooden facades. One afternoon per camp part we go to the nature reserve Storforsen, one of Europe's most powerful places. In Storforsen there will be a study visit to the forestry and rafting museum, where we will, among other things, look at the timbered Daitakojan which has undergone restoration in the past year.

The number of places is limited, so don't wait too long with your application, where you also indicate which parts you want to participate in.

Time: 9.00:17.00-XNUMX:XNUMX every day.
