Archeology Day 2025

During the 1970s, major archaeological inventories were carried out in the municipality of Arvidsjaur as part of the so-called Northern Archaeology project. Norrbotten Museum archaeologist Åsa Lindgren talks about the museum's continued work with finds and remains from the project.

The Northern Archaeology project started as a reaction to the lake regulations that followed due to the expansion of hydroelectric power and was carried out in addition to Arvidsjaur also in Arjeplog and Älvsbyn. Approximately 3000 sites with cultural remains were registered and over 2400 finds have been collected. Among other things, house foundations, hearths, pottery shards and stone tools were found at the old church and marketplace in Arvidsjaur.

Archaeology Day is held in collaboration between Arvidsjaur Hembygdsförening and Norrbotten Museum.
